How to price a digital product in naira without guessing

Use a simple worksheet to compare your price, fees, support time and affiliate commission before choosing a launch price.

Picking a price by copying another creator can hide important differences. Their audience, support promise, product depth and costs may be different from yours. Start by understanding what you are selling and what remains after a sale.

Define exactly what the price buys

A template with instructions is a different offer from a template plus a personal review. Write down the files, access period, updates and support you include. For coaching, describe the session length and follow-up. For a community, make the billing period and ongoing commitment explicit.

Research alternatives your intended buyer actually considers. Those alternatives may include doing the task manually, hiring someone or using a free resource. Use that research to understand their decision, rather than treating every competing price as a target.

Work backwards from the sale

Use this planning worksheet for each proposed price:

  1. Start with the amount the customer pays after a discount.
  2. Subtract the transaction fee that applies to your plan and currency.
  3. Subtract any affiliate commission and agreed collaborator allocation.
  4. Allow for the cost of delivering the support you promised.
  5. Compare the remaining contribution with your ongoing costs.

Illustrative example: a ₦5,000 sale, a hypothetical ₦400 transaction fee, ₦1,000 affiliate commission and ₦600 support allowance leaves ₦3,000 towards other costs and profit. These are planning assumptions, not Creatorr Shop’s fee schedule. Use the current fees page and your actual agreements when calculating your own figures.

That ₦3,000 is also not automatically spendable cash. Refunds, subscriptions, withdrawal charges and your wider business obligations can affect what you keep and when you receive it.

Check discounts before offering them

Suppose the same product is discounted from ₦5,000 to ₦4,000. That is a 20% reduction in the selling price. It does not necessarily mean your remaining contribution falls by only 20%, because some costs may stay the same. Recalculate each deduction using its actual rule before promoting the offer.

Use real buyer feedback

Choose an initial price with a clear reason. Record what buyers ask, whether they use the product and which parts they find valuable. If people cannot explain what they receive, clarify the offer before assuming the price is the problem.

When testing a new price, note the date, offer contents and traffic source. A few sales at different times do not isolate the effect of price. Avoid claiming that one price “converts better” when several things changed together.

Do this before launch

Create three columns for your planned price, a realistic discount and an affiliate sale. Calculate what remains in each case. If one version cannot support the promised service, adjust its scope, price or commission before accepting orders.
